Admission


Candidate’s Qualifications for the M.A. Program or the M.A. Program with the intention to continue to the Ph.D. Program

  1. Candidates must have obtained a bachelor’s degree in any field of study from a Thai or foreign institution of higher learning accredited by the University Council with a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.50 (out of 4) or equivalent. Candidates graduating from an institution with a different grading system must present proof of equivalence of GPA.
  2. Candidates must have a working knowledge of the English language, having obtained one of the following scores from a recognized testing institution. Test scores are valid for two years.
* TOEFL (Paper-based)
* TOEFL (Computer-based)
* TOEFL (Internet-based)
* IELTS
* TU-GET
no less than 550 ; or
no less than 213 ; or
no less than 80 ; or
no less than 6; or
no less than 550

The deadline for submission of the English test score for MA applicants is September 21, 2013. MA candidates who fail to submit the score will be disqualified even if they passed the written and interview exams.

Application documents

  1. Completed application form Application
  2. Two 1-inch-size photos
  3. A copy of official transcripts
  4. A copy of citizen ID card (or Passport for non-Thai candidates)
  5. Valid English test score report (last day for submission is April 21, 2013)
  6. A copy of bank transfer of 1,000 baht for application processing fee payable to ‘Thammasat University’, Krungthai Bank, Tha Tien Branch, Account Number 026-1-52083-0 (Please write your name on the slip and make a photocopy for your own reference)

Notes: All photocopied documents must be verified, and the original documents may be required for validation upon the Program’s notification.

Application Method

Application can be downloaded online. Please send the completed application form and documents to the following address no later than July 31, 2013

Applicants who wish to submit the application package in person at the Program Office should call the officials and make an appointment.

Written exam and interview

In the writing exam on 24 August 2013, the candidates will be asked to write an essay in English on a topic relating to English Language Studies. Those who pass the written exam and thus are eligible for an interview will be contacted. The interview will take place on 21 September 2013.




Candidate’s Qualifications for Ph.D. Program

  1. Candidates must have obtained a master’s degree from a Thai or foreign institution of higher learning accredited by the Thammasat University Council and must have a GPA of no less than 3.25 (out of 4) or the equivalent or
    Candidates must be studying in the Master of Arts Program in English Language Studies (International Program) at the English Department, Thammasat University, must have accumulated at least 27 credits with a GPA of at least 3.25 and must have passed the examinations in E.G. 786 Selected Topics in English.

    Candidates graduating from an institution with a different grading system must present proof of equivalence of GPA.

  2. Candidates must have a working knowledge of the English language, having obtained one of the following scores from a recognized testing institution. Test scores are valid for two years.

Application documents for Ph.D. Program

  6. A copy of bank transfer of 1,000 baht for application fee, payable to (details to be added)
  7. A 1,000-word research proposal following this outline:
       ° A field of study of the thesis, or proposed research title
       ° An introduction (e.g. context of study, a brief review of the literature or underpinning theories, or rationale      for the study)
       ° Research objectives and/or research questions
       ° Research methods
       ° Proposed time frames
       ° Provisional bibliography
    ‘The applicants who commit plagiarism on their proposals will be not called for an interview’
  8. Two letters of recommendation (sealed and sent directly to the Program)

Interview

The admission committee will screen the applicants’ proposals. The applicants whose proposals pass the screening will be eligible for an interview and will be contacted by the Program. The interview will take place on either 31 August 2013.
